Baby Dance With Me, Shirley Branch

Friday, April 27th, 2012

As the children seemed to be getting tired towards the end of the class, some of the Mum’s wondered if the class could be earlier and 30 minutes rather than 45 minutes so we’re hoping to try doing 9:25 – 9:55am as of this Monday – how would that work for you? Let me know if it’s inconvenient and we can go back to the drawing board! See you on Monday little ones! Miss Alison xxx

So, had the first peek at the rushes of the show DVD! It looks AMAZING and that’s only one camera’s worth! The sound from the onboard mic is great too – taps & vocals coming through loud and clear and that’s without hearing the separate sound recording!! It’s gonna be a great one! Get your order in if you haven’t already! You won’t want to miss this!

Insight into traditional Irish Dance Comps!

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Here at Dancewise Studios, Holbury and Shirley, we don’t enter the tradtional Irish Dance competitions but instead we enter the All-England Dance Competition and our Irish dancers compete in (and sometimes win!) the National section performing their Irish Dances.

But sometimes we’re asked why we don’t enter the traditional Irish dance comps – here’s a link to the traditional world of competitive Irish Dance so you can get an insight into what they can be like!

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012
Just to confirm a few details for the weekend.

The Dress Rehearsal on Saturday is at Manor School with times as before. Those only in Act 1 to get there at 12 to start at 1 and finish at 4pm. Those only in Act to get there at 2 to start at 3pm to finish at 6pm. Those in both Acts 12 – 6.

The technical rehearsal at the theatre on Sunday. Please come in the Stage Door (where students were coll…ected from last year – NOT the scenery dock door that we came in through). All students are to drop their lunch/tea off at the Green Room and then go straight to the auditorium where they can sit down and watch whats going on until dressing rooms are clear. Timings for the rehearsal are as follows – those only in Act 1 to get there at 9:15 to start at 10, lunch break approx 12 – 1 and then the finale 1 – 2pm approx. Those only in Act to get there at 12:15pm to start at 1pm to finish at 4pm approx for a tea break.

For the show itself, all dancers need to be checked in backstage no later than 5pm ready for the show – if your student is only in Act 1 and you’d like to collect them between the rehearsal and the show they must be back again by 5pm.

We’d love to sell out for the show and have the students peform to a full house so have try and think of one more person you know who would love to see this amazing production!

We also still have some roses and programmes available for pre-order – let Jan know if you’d like one/both as stocks are limited.

Look forward to seeing you at the weekend if not before!

Oh and why not make the show poster your profile pic – let’s see if we can cover Facebook with So You Think You Can Dancewise!!

Exam News

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

Exam days are provisionally arranged for ballet in July and Modern/Tap/Jazz end September/beginning October. We’ll let you know the exact dates as soon as we have them. But most excitingly, there is an exam open to everyone from Grade 1 up in any dance style!  It’s part of the ISTDs Olympic Celebrations and is a lovely opportunity to take this one off exam!  Details below!

The ISTD 2012 AWARD
IMPERIAL THEATRE FACULTIES

The ISTD is proud to present a unique examination to celebrate the Olympics in 2012.

The examination for the Award is designed to embrace all forms of dance within the Imperial Theatre Faculties.  It is hoped that all teachers will use this Award as part of their Olympic celebrations.

What does a candidate receive?

The candidate receives a specially designed Award, certificate and report form.  (Candidates may take more than one examination but the Award and certificate will be identical).

 Dress

Appropriate dress and footwear for the examination being taken should be worn.

 Examination cost

The two-dance examination will cost £15.00 plus a centre fee of £10 to contribute towards the cost of the venue, pianist/music operator, examiners lunch and at least one additional exam class.

This Award will take the format of a two-dance test, two dances of any style, taken at the grade held by the candidate at that time.  The level of each dance may be different within the same examination.

 Level of Candidate

If entering an experienced candidate  then enter at the level previously achieved. If entering a first time candidate in a faculty then enter at the level you normally would for that person.

 Time limit

Five minutes for one candidate, – Twenty  minutes for four.

Day three of HHDS

Friday, April 6th, 2012

The muscle soreness has really set in now! Had an amazing breaking class with JP, fantastic teacher and b-boy, then a great House foundations class with Andy working on Jacks then a locking class with Fred – so knowledgable and we now do a mean hustle as well as being able to pace and lock. Don’t have a clue what I just said? Then come to Days of Dance 2012 to find out!
HHDS ended with an amazing jamming session with Fred and Street Dancers from 11 years old to dancers in their 50s. Incredible! The whole course was so good we’re going back again in the Summer!
Do you want to learn AUTHENTIC street dance? If you answered yes, then Dancewise is the place for you!

Day two of HHDS

Friday, April 6th, 2012

Mechanikool took us through waving & arm popping which was pretty cool but we’re now walking round randomly popping to try and figure out which muscles should be tensing!! Sasha nearly killed us both with his breaking class – learnt some great new top rock stuff as well as some developments for our down rock. Then we had a class with Maria who took us through her choreography for an UNRELEASED record – woop! Can’t wait to see the moves we learnt on the video – amazing!

So Hip Hop Don’t Stop yesterday!

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012
Both Miss A and Thom are VERY sore having done class with Alex Mechanikool Peters (2 times UK popping Champion and popping coach for Diversity), 2 times UK popping Champion Dixon, the amazing Sarah Jane – entirely self taught and has choreographed music videos for some of the best know artists on the planet and of course the lovely Andy Instone – so knowledgeable and a little bit mental!!
Emma, Emily, Caitlin, Chantal and Georgia YOU OWE US!!!! We’re about to do a breakdance class without the Dancewise kneepads haha (felt that the sequins we added might not ad to our street cred?!!)
Check back soon for an update!
